Mentzer Votes Yes on State Budget
July 12, 2026
HARRISBURG – Rep. Steve Mentzer (R-Lancaster) today voted in favor of the 2026-2027 Pennsylvania state budget.
“Strong leadership means finding common ground and getting results for the people I represent. This budget does that,” said Mentzer. “It protects taxpayers and preserves the state’s Rainy Day Fund while still delivering record funding for local school sand more money for infrastructure needs across the state, preserving the popular Earned Income Tax Credit and Property Tax & Rent Rebate programs, and accomplishing much more,” he said.
The final budget figure of $50.8 billion is nearly $3 billion less than the amount requested by the governor. Financial experts agreed Gov. Josh Shapiro’s spending request would have drained the state’s Rainy Day Fund to meet this year’s expenditures and would result in a massive income tax increase on Pennsylvania families next year to sustain.
“This budget is based on the simple reality that Pennsylvania families cannot afford over-spending and tax increases. It places fiscal responsibility at the core and then focuses spending on the priorities of our citizens first,” Mentzer explained. “It continues my commitment to providing bipartisan leadership that focuses on people, not political games or partisanship.”
