Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday
12/29/2016
Rep. Steve Mentzer (R-Lititz)

Most of us in the 97th Legislative District which includes Lititz Borough and Manheim and Warwick townships, have a lot to be thankful for. We live in a prosperous community and one that is very generous. Many of us will be spending time with our families, but also think of those who may be spending the holiday by themselves.

As we decide what gifts we want to give to our friends and family, It is also a time when we can focus on giving back to our community. Every community has families and individuals who, for one reason or another, are struggling to take care of basic needs. There are many great organizations in Lancaster County, including local food banks, that could use your gifts of goodwill this holiday season.

If you have not already had the opportunity to give to those in need, let me make a couple suggestions: The Lititz Warwick Community Chest, (717) 627-0770 and lwcommunitychest.org, is the local food bank that helps those who live within the Warwick School District. The Salvation Army, 1244 Manheim Pike, (717) 290-1605 and salvationarmyusa.org, is another great choice to donate warm clothes or other items. Both of these organizations do great work in our communities.

I would personally like to wish all of you a happy holidays, and leave you with this Christmas message from Ronald Reagan, Dec. 21, 1981:

“For, more than just a day, Christmas is a state of mind. It is found throughout the year whenever faith overcomes doubt, hope conquers despair, and love triumphs over hate. It is present when men of any creed bring love and understanding to the hearts of their fellow man.

“The feeling is seen in the wondrous faces of children and in the hopeful eyes of the aged. It overflows the hearts of cheerful givers and the souls of the caring. And it is reflected in the brilliant colors, joyful sounds, and beauty of the winter season.
“Let us resolve to honor this spirit of Christmas and strive to keep it throughout the year.”
